Stenocereus pruinosus, sometimes referred to as Lemaireocereus Pruinosus, is a shrubby or tree-like columnar cactus, usually with one or more trunks from which branching stems arise from the base. Its green stems are covered with a waxy-prune protective skin layer, hence the name Pruinosus. This cactus is also known as 'pitayo de Octubre' or 'pitayo de mayo' in Mexico.
